Introduction

The Registry is one of the least understood aspect of the Windows Operating System. To understand the registry is to get to the heart of controlling and modifying your Windows system. In this blog I'll share some registry hacks to make your computer more personal and efficient. Dealing with registry is fun but be very careful as a wrong registry entry can wreak havoc on the system. Keep visiting to know more!

This site was initially designed only to deal with Registry Hacks. But on second thought, I have added other useful information and softwares to this site on other pages. Hope visitors will find it useful.

Disable User Tracking
Do you know your XP keeps on spying on you! The system keeps track of the programs run by the user, the path followed and the documents used. Unless you are system administrator, this feature is useless for you. Disable this to free up system resources.
For those dealing with registry for first time- from start menu click run
type Regedit to activate registry.
Warning: Editing registry could damage your system if not done properly. Do registry edit at your own risk. It is advised to take back up before starting.
To disable user tracking- Navigate to:-
HCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Set the DWORD NoInstrumentation to 1. This will disable most of user tracking features.

Pop Up a Banner when Windows Boots
You might want a banner pop up when a user is going to log on, a banner that contains any type of message you want to display.

Navigate to:
HLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon

Create a new string value here called LegalNoticeCaption. Enter whatever you want to see in the bar at top. Now create another string value called LegalNoticeText. Modify it to the message you want to display each time windows boots.
Warning: Editing registry could damage your system if not done properly. Do registry edit at your own risk. It is advised to take back up before starting.

Prevent Access to Certain Drives

This restriction prevents users from using My Computer or the Windows Explorer to access the content of selected Drives.  Also, they will not be able to use Run, Map Network Drive, or the "Dir" command to view the directories on these drives.

    Navigate to:
    HCU\Software\Microsoft\Wondows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

   And to:
   HLM\Software\Microsoft\Wondows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Create a new DWORD in both these locations called NoViewOnDrive.  That value uses a 32 bit bitmask to define local and network drive access for each logical drive on the computer.  The lower 26 bits of the 32-bit word correspond to drive letters A through Z.  Drives are visible when set to 0 and hidden when set to 1.
